Bombshell for a Day - Miss K

June 21, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

How would you describe your overall boudoir experience?

Fun! So much fun! From the consultation to picking up my final photos, it felt like a visit with my friends.

List the outfits you brought and where you bought them

A suit jacket that was my fiancées. A green button down shirt that was the one my fiancé wore when he proposed. A Blue and Green Nightie- one of the few pieces that I bought for the shoot from the Vanity Fair Outlet Mall. A white tank that I already had. The necklace I wore in those shots in pure Lapis and unrefined silver that a friend brought back from her honeymoon in Egypt. Lingerie that was purchased at the Lion's Den. A green velvet dress that I have had for years and wore to a James Bond Casino Royale party a few years ago. After the consultation I realized I had a lot in my own closet that I could use.

Who did your hair and makeup? What were your thoughts on those vendors?

Katie- she was awesome! So much fun to work with. She was engaging and did a great job with my hair and makeup. I'm hoping to see her again - I may have found a new stylist down here!

What kind of vibe were you going for? Do you think we pulled it off?

Hollywood Glam while toeing the line to boudoir. I think we did it perfectly.

Were you nervous about anything about the shoot beforehand? If so, what? Did you become more comfortable after the session started? If so, what helped to relax your nerves?

A little. Just the general “I don't have the right body for this” kind of thing nervousness. After my hair and makeup was done and we started shooting, I relaxed more and more. Sydney was great about checking in and making sure I was still okay.

What advice do you have for others getting their boudoir pictures taken?

Have fun, enjoy yourself, and don't think you have to go buy a new wardrobe. My fiancée was thrilled with my wardrobe choices. Especially the shirt he proposed in and the green velvet dress. He had never seen me in that dress, and it was fun to see his reaction when he realized what shirt I chose.

What was your reason for doing the boudoir session?

A gift for my fiancé, and ultimately myself. Our two year anniversary was last July, and our wedding was in September, so this was for both of those. This turned out to be a gift for myself. I never thought I could ever look like that.

What are some of your favorite pastimes or hobbies? What about skills?

I scrapbook, embroider, weave, and read. I also play the flute and saxophone and I am learning the hammered dulcimer. History is one of my favorite things- I spent summers after college at Lincoln’s New Salem in Petersburg, IL as a docent. I have also spent a considerable amount of time back stage at various community theaters as a costumer, dresser, makeup artist, and kid wrangler.

What was our favorite part of the session?

I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite part. The hair and makeup was awesome, the shooting was fun, and going through the photos was amazing.

Bombshell for a Day - Miss S

How would you describe your overall boudoir session experience?

It was wonderful. Sydney and Kaitlin made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. We laughed a lot and I had so much fun.

List the outfits you brought and where you bought them.

I brought an NFL jersey that belongs to my husband, and some Broncos underwear that I ordered online. I also brought a fancy bra and panty set that I bought at TJ Maxx, and a black nightie from Walmart.

Who did your hair and makeup? What are your thoughts?

Kaitlin did my hair and makeup. She was AMAZING. She did exactly what I wanted.

What kind of vibe were you going for? Do you think we pulled it off?

I wanted to go for soft and sexy. Boy did we ever pull that off. I didn’t think I could even pull it off, but I did with tremendous help from Sydney and Kaitlin!

Were you nervous about anything about the shoot beforehand? If so, what? Did you become more comfortable after the session started? If so, what helped to relax your nerves?

I was EXTREMELY nervous. I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about how I would look. Would I even be able to pull off “sexy”?  Would I have the right outfits? Do I even have enough outfits? I looked in the mirror before I left and wanted to cancel. I had a moment where I thought “I can’t do this, I’m way too gross”. I was even nervous about my hair and makeup. I didn’t want to come out of the bathroom after I put my first outfit on. Sydney was so comforting and just kept telling me, “you can do this! You’re beautiful, trust me.” That helped calm my nerves. During my session, Sydney and Kaitlin were so positive about everything and never once said “that’s ugly”. And that helped a lot!

What advice do you have for others getting their boudoir photos taken?

DON’T BE NERVOUS!!! I am the MOST self-conscience person there is and I did it! Sydney will make you feel sexy and beautiful. She makes it so much fun and really puts you at ease.

What was your reason for doing the boudoir session? (a gift for him, yourself, a wedding present, anniversary, etc.)

I wanted to do this for our wedding anniversary. We’ve been together since high school and I wanted to show him how much I still love him. I also did this for myself. I don’t normally feel good about myself. I am not skinny, I’ve had two kids, I have a BIG booty. I have curves. I wanted to feel beautiful for once and Sydney did that!

What are some of your favorite pastimes or hobbies? What about skills?

I enjoy Netflix and long walks to the fridge. LOL!  I do love Netflix, but I also love CrossFit.

What was your favorite part of the session?

I can’t pick ONE part because the whole session was amazing. Sydney is an absolutely wonderful person and she really made it fun and exciting.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

Sydney taught me to embrace my curves. She taught me that I am beautiful just the way I am, and not only me, but EVERY woman is beautiful! Thank you Sydney and Kaitlin for making this experience wonderful. I will never forget it and you may see me again!

Mini Boudoir Session - Miss K

September 25, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

Miss K recently booked a mini boudoir session as a surprise gift for her hubby on their first wedding anniversary. She is an accountant who loves working with numbers and solving analysis problems. She is also into crafts, reading, painting, and has two adorable corgi puppies.

She was going for a more natural, everyday look so she did her own hair and makeup. For her first outfits she brought a black lace bra and matching panties from Victoria’s Secret with her husband’s white button up shirt from their wedding day.  She also had a pink and black lace bra and matching panties from Victoria’s Secret with a black silk/lace robe from Wish.com.

Here's what she had to say about her experience at the studio:

Before arriving at the studio I was very nervous about being in lingerie in front of a stranger on camera. However, after meeting Sydney in her office to talk for a few minutes before going to the studio, I was immediately relaxed by her demeanor and professionalism.

My experience was fantastic. Sydney was great at keeping the mood fun and comfortable. I was going for a natural vibe, like playing around in the bedroom on a Saturday morning. I think that Sydney did a wonderful job pulling it off with the poses and backgrounds we chose. It was exactly what I had envisioned in my head during the days before the session.

I would highly recommend having a boudoir session done if you have not before. It is very empowering and confidence-building. As someone with body image issues, I felt beyond beautiful and confident both during and after my session.

My favorite part of the session was interacting with Sydney and getting to learn about each other in such a comforting environment.

Although some people might be skeptical because this company is based out of a home studio, I would highly recommend it to friends and family for all events. I have worked with multiple photographers over the years with different events and competitions during school. Artistic Photography by Sydney is definitely the real deal and strives to make her customer receive exactly what they are envisioning.

Vintage Boudoir Bombshell

September 19, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

I had the pleasure of photographing Miss T a couple of months ago, in preparation for a birthday surprise for her hubby. I'm personally crazy about a vintage theme, and her vintage inspired shoot went off without a hitch. She went with our all day experience, the Bombshell for a Day package and then added a custom case and USB drive of all of her favorite images. Check out her before photo to the left, and then read her interview below!

How would you describe your overall boudoir session experience?

It was a blast to get all made up and have pictures taken- the whole experience was FUN!

List the outfits you brought and where you bought them.

Purple/Black Corset from Adoreme.com, white nightie with black cheekies from Walmart,

and a Cardinals jersey.

Who did your hair and makeup? What are your thoughts?

Kaitlin did my hair and makeup and she was AWESOME! She was really down to earth and made me feel comfortable. I told her I wanted the vintage glam look and she nailed it! When I climbed out the chair I looked as if I climbed out of a time machine. Finger waves and all!

What kind of vibe were you going for? Do you think we pulled it off?

Sexy vintage glam and yes, Sydney & Kaitlin hit it out of the park!!!! HOME RUN!!

Were you nervous about anything the shoot beforehand? If so, what? Did you become more comfortable after the session started? If so, what helped to relax your nerves?

Of course I was nervous! Holy crap, getting half naked in front of strangers - YES! Sydney’s personality puts you at ease so quickly; she’s hilarious and made me feel completely comfortable. Her studio is nice and inviting. She goes above and beyond to make sure you’re comfortable.

What advice do you have for others getting their boudoir pictures taken?

Seriously, just have fun! Don’t over think it.

………… and maybe do a few stretches the night before, those poses are serious stuff. I have a whole new respect for models. You’ll hear the phrases “pop the butt out, arch the back and suck in the tummy” sounds easy?...... not so much! Sydney was so understanding of it though & made things humorous.

What was your reason for doing the boudoir session?

              My hubby’s birthday present.

What was your favorite part of the session?

The transformation from “everyday” to “Va-va-voom”!!

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

Sydney has the perfect personality for what she does, she put me right at ease and made the whole thing wonderful!! She even promised me a “boob shot” I’d be thrilled with, and she delivered with several of them! I would go back to Sydney in a heartbeat!! You will not be disappointed!

How a Boudoir Session Can Heal Your Scars

August 14, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

We photographed Miss A last year after she had been in a severe motorcycle accident. This was one of those photo shoots that validated yet again why we do what we do here. This photo shoot was to help her take ownership of her scars, and begin the process of emotional healing.

  1. How would you describe your overall boudoir session experience?   The experience was fantastic. It was not only to feel pretty and to do something “sexy” for my husband, but also the start of a healing process for me.

  1. List the outfits you brought and where you bought them.   Red bra and black lace underwear from Wal-Mart, black pinstripe corset, and black and red corset both purchased online from spicylingere.com,  Harley Davidson jacket was purchased at Black Diamond Harley-Davidson.

  1. Who did your hair and makeup?    Kaitlin did my hair and makeup and she was amazing. She did exactly what I had envisioned and explained to her.

  1. What kind of vibe were you going for? Do you think we pulled it off?    I was going for a sexy, but soft and gentle feel at the same time. In a few photos I really wanted the hurt and healing to be captured, which Sydney did beautifully.

  1. Were you nervous about the shoot beforehand?    Did you become more comfortable after the session started? If so, what helped to relax your nerves? I was only nervous about the outfits that were going to bring back the memories, feelings, and  raw emotion that I felt about my wreck. Sydney and Kaitlin made me feel so comfortable and safe and even cried with me. Truly the best team ever!!!

  1. What advice do you have for others getting their boudoir pictures taken?    Relax and enjoy. This is not only for your significant other, but this is also for you. Feel beautiful in your own skin whether you have scars, you are not stick thin, or whatever you “think” you have issues with. Sydney and her team will make you feel like you are a supermodel. Sit back and relax, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!!

  1. What was your reason for doing the boudoir session?     A Christmas gift for my husband, and the start of a healing journey for myself.

  1. What are some of your favorite pastimes or hobbies?    Pastimes and hobbies have kind of been put on hold due to injuries. I am a volunteer firefighter and really enjoy it. I enjoy traveling and seeing and meeting new people. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends.

  1. What was your favorite part of the session?    The entire session.  There is not one part that I can section out.  We laughed and had a great time the entire session.

  1. Is there anything else you would like to mention?    Sydney was a great part of the beginning of a healing journey for me after my motorcycle accident in April of 2014. I had shied away from cameras since the accident due to scars and discoloration that I was left with, and because I was more critical of myself. I was afraid that people would view me differently. After being in and out of the hospital all summer with various problems relating to my accident, and being told several times that I was lucky to be alive, I lost a part of myself and felt as if I was not pretty anymore or attractive in someone else’s eyes, let alone my own. Sydney opened my eyes to the beauty that was within the scars and bumps and bruises that remain, and the story that was behind them . I hope that by doing this I can inspire other women in the same situation to take this journey and do it for themselves, for their emotional and physical healing, and to accept that they are beautiful just the way they are. No amount of scars or imperfections are going to change that. Sydney does a fantastic job at making you feel like you are a million dollars and that when you are in her hands, everyone is beautiful no matter how big or small the imperfection is.
